PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) is an approach to therapeutic exercise which therapists all over the world have found effective for treating patients with a wide range of diagnoses. The approach presented in this richly illustrated guide is based on the concepts set out by Dr. Herman Kabat and taught by Margaret Knott. The fully revised third edition demonstrates how the principles of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and aspects of motor learning and motor control (from "hands-on" to "hands-off" management) are applied in modern PNF evaluation and treatment. The section on Activities of Daily Living has been expanded with new photos and more in-depth text instructions. A new fresh design and layout highlight the clearly structured way in which philosophy, basic procedures and treatment patterns of PNF are presented. Thus, this textbook provides a systematic and easily accessible guide to learning and understanding PNF as a practical tool and using it to full effect in patient treatment.

This groundbreaking new book addresses a critical aspect of the occupational therapy practice - the art and science of building effective, fulfilling relationships with clients. A distinguished clinician and educator, Renee Taylor, PhD, uses a new conceptual practice model, the Intentional Relationship Model, to define how the client and the therapist each contribute to the unique interpersonal dynamic that becomes the therapeutic relationship. She emphasizes how therapists must act deliberately, thoughtfully, and with vigilant anticipation of the challenges and breakthroughs that have the potential to influence the course of the relationship.Actual case examples from twelve exceptional clinicians from around the world illustrate how this model is used to address many of the challenging interpersonal situations that commonly occur in therapy. And, guided exercises and assignments help readers to master the skills they need and to apply them to wide range of clinical situations and presenting problems. This title introduces a new conceptual practice model that defines the communication skills, values, reasoning processes, and interpersonal behaviors required to form a unique and effective relationship between client and therapist. It identifies 6 easy-to-apply modes of communication to guide the therapeutic dialogue: Advocating, Collaborating, Empathizing, Encouraging, Instructing, and Problem-solving.It highlights intentional relationship models through case studies that reveal the interpersonal skills of 12 therapists from around the world. It uses self-reflection exercises and assessments to allow readers to test their knowledge and reflect upon chapter content as it relates directly to clinical practice experience.

There has been very rapid development in computing in recent years and this is now a general trend in the field of orthopedics. Orthopedic trauma is no exception, as there is much enthusiasm surrounding the use of surgical navigation in musculoskeletal trauma. In light of these developments, the successful first edition of this book has been revised and updated. A lot of new information has been added to the original chapter on CAOS (computer-aided orthopedic surgery). Also, as the WHO has published new guidelines on osteoporosis management, together with the many conceptual changes in this area, adding a chapter on osteoporosis is both timely and appropriate. A chapter on hip fracture rehabilitation has also become necessary, not only because it echoes the teachings of the chapter on osteoporosis, but also because of the projected exponential increase in the occurrence of this fracture by the year 2050.
